Data collection tip of the day
Data collection can be overwhelming, particularly for the curious (who are inevitably those who seek data collection services). You have so many questions. You need so many answers. There are so many things you don’t know…and you don’t know where to start. Here’s a data collection tip for you today!
If you’re considering launching any data collection or research project — whether it be a market research project, employee engagement survey, public opinion poll, needs assessment, etc. — start with three simple questions:
- What do I need the data for? Consider true needs — not mere “well, it would be interesting if…” data.
- What do I plan to do with the data? Think on this one long and hard. Put yourself in the future for a moment. Imagine the data report in your hands. What will you do with it immediately? What will you do with it in the near future? What do you dream of doing with the data, but are unsure of how you would get there?
- Which audiences do I need to understand? Who do I hope to connect with after the research is in my hands? Who do I hope to help or engage? Which audiences are not my primary concern.
These three questions are the perfect start to any data collection project, and we promise they will give you focus as you create your questionnaire. We would love the opportunity to brainstorm these questions with you in person, and see your data collection project come to fruition under our guidance, please contact us for a free consultation. We hope this data collection tip was helpful!
