Adams 12 Five Star Schools Well-Being Priorities Surveys

Gathering data to understand stakeholder priorities before the creation of a strategic plan.

Upon receiving a generous planning grant from the Colorado Health Foundation, Adams 12 Five Star Schools set out to assess the needs and priorities of students, parents, and staff in the following areas: physical education and physical activity, health education, nutrition services, mental health services, and the social/emotional school climate.

The Challenge

Adams 12 Five Star needed assessment data in order to understand the priorities of stakeholder groups before they developed a strategic plan.

The findings allowed Adams 12 Five Star Schools to set two-year focus priorities for each stakeholder group.

The Solution

We helped Adams 12 Five Star Schools develop questionnaires for three audiences—students, parents, and faculty/staff—which focused on the key planning areas of the project. We were able to survey 2,210 staff members; 1,800 students; and 750 parents.

The Result

The findings allowed Adams 12 Five Star Schools to set two-year focus priorities for each stakeholder group and identify possible interventions and plans for each group. Ultimately, the district decided to invest in a more complete district-wide/topic-wide strategic planning process just one year later. Most of their strategic planning is now linked to that more comprehensive effort.
